Biography of Dax O'Callaghan
Dax O’Callaghan was trained at the legendary Sylvia Young Theatre School and was a seasoned professional performer at a very young age. At 10 years old he played the lead role ‘Gavroche’ in Les Miserables in London’s West End, and then went on to become the first person to play the role of the ‘The Artful Dodger’ in the Cameron Mackintosh production of Oliver at the London Palladium, West End. He featured in over 60 TV Commercials before leaving School along with TV lead roles in EastEnders playing the character Jack Price, Casualty, Hope & Glory, Trial by Jury and The Knock. At 13yrs old Dax co-presented The Children’s Royal Variety Show at The London Palladium, before going on to be a TV Presenter for Nickelodeon, the world-wide Children’s channel.
As a trained dancer an early dance career also emerged whilst at school, performing with The Spice Girls, SugaBabes, PJ & Duncan, TV show Live & Kicking, and touring Europe with the fashion company The Production Team in his early teens. When leaving school he went on to join world choreographer Wayne Sleep on the production of DASH as a featured dancer. At 16 years old Dax became the youngest ever choreographer to teach full-time classes at the Pineapple Dance Studios in Covent Garden, London. An accolade which still stands to this day.
At 19 years old Dax was signed as a solo recording artist to Warner International Record Company achieving huge success in the European pop charts with his first No.1 – two years later he signed a new record deal with Universal Music to be part of the boyband Lexington Bridge – who went on to become one of Germany’s most successful groups, notching up five Number 1’s across 7 different countries across Europe, one of thier Singles featured legendary U.S rapper Snoop Dogg. Dax choreographed all seven music videos for his boyband and also both of their European Tours.
Dax returned to the UK in 2010 and began choreographing for other artists. He has choreographed performers such as Olly Murs, Ella Henderson (2015 UK Tour), The Overtones (2014, 2015 UK Tours) Andrea Begley (winner of The Voice UK), MNEK, Jedward (creating their 2011 Eurovision entry for Ireland), was assistant choreographer for JLS on their UK arena tour, assistant choreographer for the infamous T-Mobile flash-mob commercial at Heathrow Airport, and in 2014 was guest choreographer for the CBBC show The Next Step. In 2016 Dax choreographed four new theatre productions for leading cruise line company Celebrity Cruises, and was director for another three productions.
Due to his achievements Dax has been a guest judge for the European and International ASDU Dance Championships, and also the UDO World Street Dance Championships.
His work in music production and song writing is also impressive. Having spent time living in Los Angeles working with legendary producer Teddy Riley in 2009, Dax has gone on to produce music for Kelly Roland, JLS, Pixie Lott, Alexandra Burke, Little Mix, Dancing On Ice Tour and aslo fashion and coorperate events such as the Ideal Home Show, F&F fashion show, and Next fashion show. Creating re-mixes, along with original compositisions, for tours, tv performances, and album projects.
Dax has not simply jumped from one field to another within the entertainment industry but uses his vast exerience to bring all areas together for every project, seeing his artistry as growth so to continually work in all sections of entertainment in one expression, creating innotive productions and bodies of work. His wide range of understanding within this competitive marketplace is all encompassing along with his credentials among his peers.
